8 hours

Limiting the journeys of animals for slaughter to a maximum of 8 hours total: this is the purpose of the Campaign 8hours , launched in 2011 by Animals' Angels with the Danish MEP Dan Jørgensen and supported in Italy by LAV, which reached in a few months more than one million signatures of European citizens and the support of 126 members of the European Parliament (MEP).

The campaign has produced in March 2012 a first important result: the approval by the European Parliament of Written Declaration 49/2011 on the establishment of a maximum journey limit of 8 hours for animals transported in the European Union in order to be slaughtered. And in December of the same year the vote on the initiative of MEP Janusz Wojciechowski, who called on the Commission and Council to revise Regulation (EC) No. 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport, and to establish a maximum limit of 8 hours of journey the animals being transported.
