Genoa, non-animal research: LAV funds two scholarships

LAV practically supports alternative methods of research, and has therefore decided to fund the development of experimental protocols replacing the current use of animals, or animal parts, in research.

In light of this commitment, this morning, during a press conference organised to illustrate the project, we have donated Euro 20,000 to the National Cancer Research Institute of Genoa for the creation of two scholarships dedicated to launching a line of research on HUVEC cells (Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells), useful to study the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis - which feed cancer cells) and the functions of endothelial cells.

The funding was possible thanks to the contributions of many citizens who have decided to donate the the 5x1000 to LAV (in Italy taxpayers can choose to destine half percent of their yearly income taxes to an ONG or other voluntary organization chosen from a government-approved list), to help us take every day one step ahead for ethical, innovative research which is useful for the citizens.
